Week 1 & 2

We hope you had a great half term with lots of love and fun! This term is going to be a noisy one, with plenty of music, instruments and singing.

This fortnight began our musical focus and it was certainly a fun and noisy one with lots of musical instruments being introduced to our room. Nia raided the cupboards and found all sorts of exciting noise makers including a cello, trumpet and trombone!

Our oracy core word focus has been ‘same & different’ and ‘what’. We used our instruments to play same and different beats and enjoyed the ‘what is it?’ activity where we pulled a range of objects out of a box and then matched it to it’s picture.

In bucket time, we have had great fun with the drums where we put different materials on the top and then watched them bounce and dance as it was beaten. We then practiced making loud and quiet sounds as well as fast and slow and this was lots of fun.

On Wednesday, we enjoy our music and movement afternoon where we listened to ‘I have a little drum’ song. As the song went on, we pulled out different instruments to go with the song including a drum, tambourine, shaker and jingle bell. If you would like to have a go at this, here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKs-HhZre_E.

Our sensory story this fortnight was all about instruments and we got to use our senses to explore a range of instruments feeling the texture, listening to the sound and looking at the differences between them.

Our maths learning has been around copying beats. We added in counting to help us remember the patterns 😊

Phonics this fortnight has been all about ‘bang’ and ‘play’. We again, used our instruments to help us in learning our new words alongside our usual phonics activities including playdough stamp, whiteboard write, finding magnetic letters and ‘same, same’ matching small cards.

Week 3 & 4

This fortnight has been all about songs and singing and as you know, we love a good singsong about well.. everything. Our superpower in Atlas is being able to give anything a tune, no matter the situation! That being said, we have finally found a purpose for this superpower. We have enjoyed singing lots of different types of songs this week including our favourite nursery rhymes.

In bucket time recently, we had great fun signing a rainbow where we learnt the Makaton colours to go along with the song. We then created our very own rainbow choosing the correct colour in the right order to paint our rainbow. This is proudly up on display and has been a focal point of conversation. We also enjoyed singing Old Macdonald and acting out the song using and choosing a different animal to put on our own farm.

Our oracy core word focus has been ‘where?’. We used some small objects to bury in shaving foam and then had to sign and ask ‘where is the…’ to find it. We then played a game of I spy and had to point to the object which was being spied.

On Wednesday, we enjoy our music and movement afternoon where we had great fun with the Wiggles singing and dancing to some classic nursery rhymes.

Our sensory story this fortnight was all about singing. We had to take lots of deep breaths to ensure that our bodies were ready to make lots of different noises including humming, singing melodies and then growing and shrinking our voices.

Our maths learning was all about ‘Alice the Camel’ who helped us count to 8. Alice and her friends all have different features which we had to count as we sang the song - https://youtu.be/XM7Jnetdf0I

Phonics this fortnight has been all about ‘song’ and ‘sing’. We loved being able to use our singing voices to help us with our phonics learning and even got to record ourselves and listen to it back. This was all alongside our usual phonics activities including playdough stamp, whiteboard write, finding magnetic letters and ‘same, same’ matching small cards.
