Summer Term 2026

Week commencing 15th July

This week in English the children continued to edit and publish their independent writing. We then got a head start on our assessments for the end of the year.

Week commencing 8th July 2026

This week in English the children have planned and written their innovated ending to the George and the Dragon story. It has been lovely to see how their writing has developed over this year.

In maths, all of the children have been learning about time. One group have been focussing on telling the time to an hour, half hour, quarter to and quarter past. The second group have been learning to tell the time to the hour and have also reviewed the days of the week and the months. We all joined in with this learning, practising spelling the days of the week.

Week commencing 1st July 2026

It was lovely to welcome the children back after half term. This week in English we have been exploring the emotions of the main characters in our story and gathering phrases to support our independent writing. The children will create an alternative ending to the George and the Dragon story.

In maths all of the children have been learning about money. One group have been adding and subtracting money and calculating the change that would be given. They were very successful in using column method to complete these calculations. The second group of children moved on to recognising notes and comparing values.

Week commencing 18th May 2026

This week in English the children have been writing sentences that use the suffix – er to create superlatives. They practiced using conjunction to explain why George could not bring himself to slay the dragon. The children spent time exploring the setting and gathering vocabulary. This will support their independent writing.

In maths, one group of mathematicians have continued their fractions learning, finding unit fractions of an amount and non unit fractions of an amount. This was challenging so we spent time practising this skill with lots of resources . The second group of mathematicians continued their place value learning by comparing numbers, before moving on to learning about money. The children spent time with Miss Rowlands becoming familiar with coins and their value before practising using coins in our pop up shop.

Week commencing 11th May 2026

In English this week the children have been writing sentences to describe the capture of the dragon, using prepositions to describe George’s journey through the woodland. They have also written George’s inner thoughts using questions effectively.

In maths one group of children have continued their fractions learning. We spent time this week understanding the whole and partitioning it in different ways. Many of these mathematicians were completing their SATS this week. The second group of children moved on to their place value learning. They counted from 50 -100 in ones and tens and began to partition two digit numbers into their tens and ones.

Week commencing 4th May 2026

In English this week we have been linking our story, George and the Dragon, to the movie “How to train your dragon.” The children watched clips of the film and used this to build a vocabulary bank for the appearance and personality of the Dragon and George. They designed a machine to catch a dragon using blue print paper and talked about the materials that would be needed. Next week, they will use all of this vocabulary to support their writing.

In maths this week one group of children have begun learning about fractions, beginning with adding and subtracting fractions. The children were really confident with this which was lovely to see. They are making great progress as mathematicians. The second group of children continued their position and direction learning, describing above, below and in between before learning about ordinal numbers.

Week commencing 27th April 2026

This week in English the children have written creative sentences to describe the precise actions of the soliders, the dragon and the villagers during the dragon's castle attack. They used adverbs effectively to add interest and detail to their sentences.

In maths, one group of children have now completed their capacity and volume learning. They are now ready to move on to their next area of fractions learning next week. The second group have been focussing on position and direction this week. They have explored turns, left and right and backwards and forwards. This culminated in a fun lesson with the beebots, where the children wrote instructions to programme the beebot around a map. It was lovely to hear so much maths vocabulary during this learning, and the children are becoming increasingly confident with identifying left and right.

Week commencing 20th April 2026

It was lovely to welcome the children back to school after Easter. They have settled back into our routines quickly and have produced some lovely work this week. Well done Everest team!

In English we have continued with our story, George and the Dragon. We have written sentences to describe the dragon’s fiery breath and the onomatopoeic sounds that his tail and wings would make.

In maths this week, one group of children have moved onto their volume and capacity learning. They have measured volume in ml and l and have compared capacity and volume. The second group of children began their fractions learning. Finding and recognising halves and quarters of shapes and quantities.
