Summer term 2

WC 8th June 2026.

In Maths, we have continued to count within 100. We have used part whole models to partition our tens and ones. We have also compared a hundred square and a number line to help us count to one hundred. We have got very good at finding different numbers and explaining their location.

In English, we uncovered a door in Grandad's attic.... this took us on a new adventure across the ocean! We have described all the things we noticed and heard on our journey - including squawking seagulls, wild waves, soft clouds, sunsets, jumping dolphins and flying fish!

In PSHE, we talked about how we can be our own friend and what we are incredible at - caring, sharing, helpfulness, kindness, bravery, speed and much more. In Science, we are continuing to learn about all the different types of animals. We have sorted out pictures of animals into which are carnivores, herbivores or omnivores.

We have had our phonics check this week in School and everyone has worked very hard looking for phonics sounds in words and reading. Super job Team Year 1!

WC 1st June 2026.

Welcome back for our last Summer term.
We have started the term off by  counting to 100 in Maths! Everyone has really enjoyed this challenge and learnt how to use a 100 square to look for patterns in the rows and columns.

In English, we have started a lovely new story called ‘Grandad's Island’. We have discovered Grandad has a fascinating attic in his home and described how we can climb up there and find all the interesting objects he has from his Worldly travels.

We have really enjoyed starting our preparations for sports day. We have been racing in PE and thinking about how to hold our bodies and stay in our lane 😊. In Art, this term we are exploring the style of Fauvism to create our own piece of art. We have also shared our ideas about how to be a good friend in PSHE - well done Year 1.

Wc 5th May 2026.

In English, we have been thoughtfully writing our own version of the familiar story Little Red Riding Hood. There were some lovely ideas - for example when Little Red Riding Hood heard a noise in the forest… who was hiding behind the trees?

In Maths, we have used repeated addition using our 2s, 5s and 10s knowledge. Great job! We have been introduced to arrays and realised we can see counting in columns and rows everywhere - egg boxes, baking trays, chocolate box trays and even big chocolate bars!

We have continued to work hard in phonics. We have practised our tricky spellings and recapped our small number bonds ( to 5 and to 6) - please keep working on these.

In PE we have loved working on our games skills. We have also been learning how we can link our movements together by rolling. In Art, we have enjoyed discussing our opinions about Pop Art; selecting our preferred colours and shapes. In Geography, We completed our own images of the bodies of water on our planet - oceans, seas, rivers, lakes and more. What a busy week!

WC 27th April 2026.

In English, we have been very busy reading the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We have written lots of super sentences. We have written some great sentences in past tense to describe the wolf's actions.

In Maths, we have continued to learn about multiplication and division - we have done a fabulous job counting in twos, fives and tens!

In Geography, we have started to learn about the different waters of the world - Oceans, seas, lakes, ponds, rivers and streams. We had a fabulous trip to Mrs Smith's Cottage in Navenby as part of our History learning. We learnt all about what it would be like to live without electricity in our homes. We explored Mrs Smith's old cottage, made our own mini rag rug using recycled fabric and even had a go to wash her clothes by hand! Did you know she lived until she was 102 years old and had a big 100th Birthday party in her cottage.

Finally, thank you for supporting our whole school pantry fundraiser on Friday.

WC 20th April 2026.

Welcome back to school and summer term 1!
We have lots to look forward to including our History trip to Mrs Smith’s cottage on Thursday 30th April.

In English, we have started reading the familiar fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood. We have described the story characters - including the helpful little girl and the mean, scary Wolf! We enjoyed exploring lots of woodland foliage and wrote some lovely sentences to describe the forest. Including the beautiful flowers, soft moss and bumpy, rough sticks and twigs. Super adjectives!

In Maths, we have finished learning about volume and capacity. We compared the capacity of different containers and used our problem solving skills to accurately find out how many cups would fill the containers. We finished the week by counting in twos. We counted pairs of socks and used skip counting to help us. Look out for opportunities to count in pairs - count shoes, gloves, earrings!

In PSHE, we have continued our learning on how to healthy and safe. We sensibly thought about safe and unsafe objects we may find in our home. In Geography, we recapped learning about the continents. We were all really interested in the different countries in Europe. Take time to look at an atlas again and see if you’ve visited any of the countries. We also went on a cartoon adventure with the 'Go Jetters characters' to see what we could find out about the continent of Africa and how it was different to Europe. In Science, we were very knowledgeable about mammals and made a great start learning about animals.

We finished our first week with our whole school exciting RE Holi festival! What a super and busy first week back.
