WC 01.12.25 Monday - Wednesday - Mrs Barratt
A great week in Year 2. In English, we have started our new unit of work, 'Christmas Star'- this is a BBC advert. We have looked at the start of the clip and discussed what verbs we can use to describe how Jasmine is moving out of school and using similes to compare Jasmine to a bright shiny star. We then watched little snippets from Matilda and Home Alone to see how the adults can ignore the children and how it makes them feel.
In Maths, we have been looking at lines of symmetry. We found shapes with a vertical line of symmetry and talked about each side needs to be equal, we then had a go at completing the other side of the shape trying our best to make it equal! This was tricky.
This week has been D&T week; our project is to adapt a staple food into a festive treat. We have decided to design and make bread in a festive way. We have taste tested different breads to decide which we like the best, then we designed a style for our bread e.g., Christmas tree, star etc. and then what we would like to add to our bread to make it tastier. We will be making the bread on Thursday!
On Wednesday, we had PE with Mrs Sewards and Art with Mrs Freeman.
Thursday and Friday - Miss Cragg
We finished the week strong with some Maths working on counting faces and edges on shapes. In English we have been writing sentences with contractions and questions using apostrophes and question marks. We've also had an experience day discussing the sorts of jobs grown ups do and why we are so busy all of the time! We finally had chance to make some bread designs and decided on a savory cheese plait and a chocolate christmas sharing tree, then we got to taste our delicious creations and evaluate what we liked and what we didn't. A PE class and a spelling test finished us all off! Another week done, well done Year 2!

What a first half term in Year 2! Well done everyone, you've worked so hard and settled in so well. We're so proud of you!
In Maths this week we've used 100 squares to count 10 more and 10 less looking for patterns, noticing that the ones stay the same when the tens change. We've also added and subtracted 10s and then added two 2-digit numbers but not across a 10, staying within the same 10.
In English we've learned about rhetorical questions, alliteration, bullet points, brackets and precise adjectives. Crikey! We're like big Year 6's here!
A spelling test, a PE lesson and a Halloween disco finished off our week. Have a wonderful break - you thoroughly deserve it! Be safe and have fun, we'll see you on Monday 10th November.
If you can, please continue to practice your 2 x tables and the following spellings:
write, wrong, too, to, was, his, is, children, wild, climb
W.C 13.10.25 Monday - Wednesday - Mrs Barratt

In Maths, we have been adding across 10 with larger numbers this week. E.g., 36+7 = 36+4+3=43. We have tried really hard to solve these equations.
We had our mini first aid training on Tuesday, we learnt how to apply a bandage, how to roll our friend into the recovery position and what to do if someone is choking. Check out Facebook to see our pictures!
A super week this week, well done Year 2.
Thursday and Friday - Miss Cragg
Almost there, the finish line is in sight but no let up for us, oh no! We are working hard and achieving greatness every day.
In Maths we've been subtracting, this time taking numbers across 10 by partitioning and then using our knowledge of number bonds to make links. In English we have began our new text which is all about making a bird feeder. We discussed the shapes for the text, placed it on a non-fiction narrative map and then made our own bird feeder together, taking photographs of each step in the process.
In RE we have discussed more key concepts in Christianity, learning about the Greatest Commandment and the Golden Rule. We also completed a quiz and assessed our learning from the unit as a whole. In PE we assessed our unit of work in gymnastics, performing our balances, contrasting travel around the space and using the equipment safely. A spelling lesson finished off our week, learning about our new spelling rule with 'gn' and 'kn'. Have a wonderful weekend!
W.C 06.10.25 Monday - Wednesday - Mrs Barratt
A super week had yet again.

The weeks are really flying by now, not long until we've finished our first half term as Year 2!
In Maths this week we've continued to add, first adding three 1-digit numbers together by noticing any number bonds to 10 and then by adding to the next 10 in our Friday lesson. In English we've been finishing off our lessons based on the poem 'If I Were in Charge of the World" thinking about some crazy ideas like having a fire-breathing dragon as a pet and eating chocolate cake for breakfast - yes please!! We have also made a plan ready to start our own poem Big Write on Monday. In RE we've been learning about Adam and Eve and linking it to the creation story for Christianity.
We've had our next spelling test - well done everyone! And completed our lesson on the spelling rules for 'gn' and 'kn'. We also had a wonderful workshop all about learning how to Beat Box! Hopefully we've come home and showed off all of our new skills.

Have a great weekend!
WC: 29.09.25 Monday - Wednesday - Mrs Barratt
We have had yet another very busy hard-working week!
In Maths, we have been finding fact families- this is finding both the addition and subtraction calculations for a part whole model e.g., 7+3=10, 3+7=10, 10-3=7, 10-7=3. We have also looked at related facts too- 3+2=5 and 30+20=50. A super job this week.

We finished off our Geography unit of work looking at the comparisons between the UK countries.
A brilliant working week this week, well done!
Thursday and Friday – Miss Cragg
What a week! A wide variety of lessons this week, just the way we like it. In Maths we’ve been relating number bonds to 10 to our number bonds to 100 and we are amazing at spotting the patterns as well as thinking about how many tens are in a number. We’ve also been recognising the addition and subtraction symbols and using them to carefully add and take away 1.
In English we’ve been sentence stacking, learning about noun phrases to use them when talking about our feelings and also learning about contractions where a missing letter is symbolised by an apostrophe. We are loving our current text!
We did some RE this week, our first lessons about Christianity learning about the Ten Commandments and the story of The Good Samaritan. In Science we’ve learned about keeping our environment clean and the importance of recycling. In our spelling lesson we looked at vowels and consonants again. The spellings for our test on Thursday 9th October are:
Race, fancy, here, hear, today, of, said, because, find, kind.
Please continue to practice the 2 x tables from 1 x 2 up to 12 x 2. Thank you and have a great weekend!

It must be the week for finishing things off as we've also done our very first Big Write and when I say Mrs Barratt and I have been astounded by the quality of writing that has been produced I mean WE HAVE HAD OUR SOCKS KNOCKED OFF with how wonderful it was! Fantastic work Year 2, we are so excited to see how this year progresses but you should all be very proud of yourselves. We've edited and published our work and then been introduced to our next text, a poem called "If I Were in Charge of the World". We'll see how this one goes!
In Science we have been looking at wild animals and their habitats and also did our first times table and spelling test. A PE lesson and a spelling lesson on the c before i and e finished off our week. What a week! The new spellings are:

WC: 08.09.25 Monday - Wednesday - Mrs Barratt
A busy first full week back in Year 2! We have really impressed our teachers with our Maths and English.
In Maths, we have been recognising 10s and 1s and using a place value chart with numbers all the way up to 100. The children have worked extremely hard to sort the tens and ones out and finding the whole number.
In English, we have been looking at bakeries. We ate some delicious cakes and breads, just like we would at a bakers and talked about what they smelt like, what it felt like and what it tasted like. We wrote some super sentences using feelings and dialogue about Eddie and her visit to Bruno's bakery. We then looked at Sleaford high street and Lincoln high street and compared the two for size and shops and businesses available at each one.
In History, we started our new unit of work 'What is evidence?' We looked at evidence, what it is and how we find evidence. We looked at the job role of an archaeologist and then became an archaeologist ourselves! We had to dig with our teams, finding dinosaur bones! We had so much fun!

On Wednesday, we had PE with Mr Godson and Art with Mrs Freeman.
What a great start to the year, well done all!
Thursday & Friday - Miss Cragg
We've been working our socks off to show our new teachers what we can do and wow, everyone is very impressed!
In Maths we've been partitioning numbers. Not just 10s and 1s, oh no, that would be far too easy for us...we've also been partitioning flexibly. It's been tough but our resilience has been showing and we haven't given up. We also had a Maths lesson which was like an English lesson with the amount of writing we had to do! We had to write lots of numbers in words, all the way up to 100.
In English we continued to write about Eddie's adventures in her search for a Fluffy, Squishy, Itty Bitty, using question words and question marks, noun phrases, adjectives and even a simile. Our writing is evolving and improving all the time.
In Science this week we have continued to learn about living things, this time looking at the life cycle of a frog which experiences metamorphosis and comparing it to a human life cycle. We also identified the five different animal groups, mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians.
In PE we looked at contrast, combining high and low movements and balances. We squeezed in our first spelling lesson and Miss Cragg tried her best to send them home on our new system but failed miserably! The sheet will be sent home every other week and we'll do our best to email them out in some form...!
They are: bridge, age, giant, there, their, to, the, do, door, floor.
Please practise the 2 times table from 1 x 2 all the way up to 12 x 2. Thank you for your support. The test will be Thursday 25th September.
What a first week! Well done Year 2.
