Autumn Term 2026
WC: 05.10.26 - Monday - Wednesday - Mrs Barratt
Another week in the bag.
In Maths, we have been comparing numbers and putting them in order. We have been practising looking at the tens first then the ones to order numbers.
In English, we have started our new English unit 'instructions'. We are working on 'How to make a bug hotel'. We have looked at features of an instruction text, imperative verbs and time adverbials. We are really enjoying this unit.
In History, we started our unit of 'Evidence'. We looked at how we find out about things from the past. We looked at the word evidence and where we find evidence. We then learnt about 'archaeology', we then went searching for dinosaur bones and used the clues to match them up accurately. We loved digging in the sand!
On Wednesday, we had PE with Miss Sewards and Art with Mrs Freeman.

Welcome to the weekend, another week done!
To finish off the week in English we have been telling Miss Cragg how to make a jam sandwich - with some hilarious consequences! We have learned to be very precise and clear with our instructions, numbering them carefully and ensuring they cannot be misconstrued. We have also written out our own instructions.
In Maths we have been counting in 2's, 5's and 10's, completing number tracks, looking for missing numbers and discussing how we know numbers are odd or even. In Science we have looked at the impact on littering to animal habitats and created a poster telling everyone about the dangers to wildlife. In RE we have been learning about Hindu sacred texts - there isn't just one like in the other religions we have looked at so far!
Two weeks to go until a very well deserved break.

Week 4 completed!
We have worked very hard this week. In Maths, we have been looking at number lines and estimating where numbers go. We know we must find the 10 first then decide which 10 the number is closer too- e.g., 68 is closer to 70 not 60.
In English, we have continued learning about Honeybees. We wrote sentences using true exclamations and using the conjunction 'and' to join two sentences together.
In PE on Monday, we used tennis balls and looked at different ways they can move. We used cones and our coordination skills to move the ball and catch the ball.
In Geography, we looked at the differences and similarities between to United Kingdom countries.
On Wednesday, we had PE with Miss Sewards and Art with Mrs Freeman.

Another week, done!
In English this week we have completed our first shared write and then our very first Year 2 Big Write! We had to write a title and an introduction for our text about honey bees. We have been so impressed with how hard everyone has been working.
In Maths we have compared objects using the inequality symbols, we watched Numberblocks for the 'Blockzilla' episode and used the language of greater than, less than and equal to. We have also been comparing objects in a similar way.
In Science we have looked at animals which need more help with food in their habitats in the winter, focusing on birds and we designed a bird feeder. We know that habitats usually provide everything an animal needs but that some animals need some extra support. In RE we have moved on to sacred texts in the Dharmic religions, focusing on Hinduism this week.

This week we have enjoyed working on flexibly partitioning in Maths. We have worked so hard to partition numbers in lots of different ways.
In English, we have started our new unit 'The Bee Book'. We have learnt about bees, their journey to making honey and what life is like inside a beehive. We have really enjoyed this journey.
In PE on Monday, we used basketballs to travel with. We practised bouncing a basketball across a distance and rolling the ball back to our team.
In Geography, we have looked at human and physical features in the UK and discussed why they are each feature.
On Wednesday, we had Art with Mrs Freeman and PE with Miss Sewards.

Welcome to another week!
In Maths at the latter end of the week we have been writing numbers in expanded form, counting the tens and popping the ones one. We have also been adding numbers onto number lines by counting in 10s - we are very good at this!
In English we have written simple sentences with a capital letter and a full stop and then we have been writing sentences with nouns, and adjectives to describe the nouns.
In Science we have been looking at how we can help our pets to survive and grow, and all of the things we need to provide them to help them thrive. In RE we looked at the sacred text of Jewish people, the Torah.

Another week has flown by! We have been working so hard in Year 2.
In Maths, we practised using a place value chart to support our understanding knowing the value of numbers. We then used this knowledge to partition numbers and show these values using base 10.
In English, we used adjectives to describe nouns from the rainforest and talked about how some adjectives don't work. We also worked on writing commands; a command is a 'bossy verb' telling someone what to do.
In Geography, we used the atlases to label the United Kingdom countries, their capital cities and the seas surrounding the UK.
In PE on Monday, we used footballs to travel. We moved in different ways with a football and then worked on targets. We tried to throw, roll and kick the ball towards a target.
On Wednesday, we had Art with Mrs Freeman and PE with Miss Sewards.

In English we have been writing questions, starting with a question word and carefully ensuring our questions end with a question mark.
In Maths we have been partitioning numbers to 100 using part-whole models and base 10 as well as writing numbers as words up to 100, our knowledge of partitioning really helped us to understand that 72 is 70 and 2 so seventy two.
In Science we have looked at how animals change over time, discussing how mammals are small versions that grow into similar looking bigger versions but that some animals such as frogs and butterflies go through a huge change known as metamorphosis. In RE we turned our attention to Islam, looking at the Muslim sacred text of the Qur'an.

Wow, what a start the Year 2's have had. They have taken on the challenge of Year 2 in their stride and are showing how amazing they are.
We have started our Maths unit of work - Place Value - this week and worked on counting numbers to 20 and counting objects to 100 by making 10s. Year 2 are really enjoying Maths.
In English, we have been looking at the rainforest. We have been writing sentences about what we may find in the rainforest making sure we remember our capital letters and full stops. We then used the conjunction 'and' to join our sentences together.
In PE, we started our Games unit and how we move with the ball. We started with a tennis ball this week and moved around in different ways e.g., kicking, rolling, throwing etc.
In Geography, we started to look at the United Kingdom. We know that there are 4 countries within the UK and used an atlas to find and locate them on a map.
On Wednesday, we had Art with Mrs Freeman and PE (Gymnastics) with Miss Sewards.

In English we have been identifying nouns and adjectives making our own sentences with a coordinating conjunction 'and'. We are really enjoying looking at rainforest animals and it is really showing in our writing.
In Maths we have been looking at recognising tens and ones. We have been counting groups of ten using our 10's and then adding on the extra ones, we have also focused on how to write a number with tens and ones.
In Science we have been learning about living, non-living and never alive and in RE we have begin our topic on special books, focusing on the Bible and its importance in Christianity.
