We made it! Another half term done, we're smashing Year 2! We've worked so hard to end the week, moving on to mass in Maths measuring in grams and kilograms then using our knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to answer 2 step problems about mass. In English we have done lots of drama, experiencing life as it would have been like in 1666 during the Great Fire of London. We acted out being Londoners moving around the city in the aftermath of the Great Plague, driving horses and carts as well as reaching out from our homes to touch the houses across the street because they were built so close to each other.
We also had another first this week, our first Big Write in RE! We wrote about the Five Pillars of Islam, remembering every detail we could and using our shared plan for support. The grown ups in the classroom were very impressed with the memories of some children! We had our final spelling and multiplication test of the half term and tried our best. In our Science lesson we were learning about good hygiene, specifically hand washing so we did an experiment with 3 slices of bread. One slice was not touched by any hands, just put straight into a sealed bag. The next slice was touched by every hand in the classroom and was also put in some places that might have lots of germs...like the door handles, the floor, the sole of a shoe...you get the idea! It was put into its own bag and then everyone went to wash their hands with lots of soap and warm water then we touched another slice of bread. We can't wait to see what will happen to the bread!
Spellings for our next test on Thursday 5th March are:
other, mother, knight, night, my, here, there, fast, last, past
