WC: 09/06/25 Monday - Wednesday - Mrs Barratt

A busy week for us this week. We have been working hard in English, we wrote sentences using adjectives, repetition, questions and expanded noun phrases. We had an experience day too where we talked about how words can hurt. We showed this using an apple- when mean words are said, you may not see the damage on the outside but on the inside, you are bruised.

In Maths, we have been working on fractions- we found a half of objects and numbers and recognised a quarter.

In History, we learnt about globalisation and how it has changed since our grandparents were little. We know we are lucky with how the world is connected through trade, travel and the internet.

On Wednesday we had a special visitor from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, she taught us how to keep safe if there is a fire and what we need to do.

WC: 02/06/25 Monday - Wednesday - Mrs Barratt

A new term, and our final one in Year 2.

We got straight back into the swing of things in English this week, we continued with our Crow's Tale book. We wrote a variety of sentences about the story using, adjectives, similes, questions and even subordinating conjunctions.

In Maths, we were using our 5 times tables and division knowledge to answer our maths questions.

In Geography, we started out new Unit all about Zambia- we used atlases to find where Africa is on a world map and more specifically Zambia, we know that Zambia is a country in Southern Africa and it is near the equator, so we know it is a warm country but also can be wet!

In History, we looked at how life has changed for children in society. We looked at workshouses and what they were, we talked about children working and how only a few went to school.

On Wednesday we had a rock assembly- this was so much fun! We also had Art with Mrs Freeman and PE and Mr Godson.

A great start to the term, well done, Year 2.

Thursday - Miss Cragg & Friday - Mrs Glaves

Another week of alllllllllll the teachers! On Thursday with Miss Cragg we covered time adverbials, commas in a list, questions and commands, verbs, vocabulary and conjunctions. Lots to cover! We also had an experience day using drama and sunshine themed music where we discussed the effects of the sun's warmth on the animal community. In Maths we had the second of our fractions lessons looking at the parts and the whole.

With Mrs Glaves we worked on recognising a half in Maths as well as a PE lesson on country dancing in pairs with a partner. We completed our RE lesson on Bar and Bat Mitzvahs and a spelling and multiplication test finished off our day. Have a great weekend!

Last week of term- a busy one!

In Maths, we have been dividing by 2 and then looking at finding double and half, also odd and even numbers. We have worked really hard to solve lots of mathematical questions!

In PSHE, we looked at families and how they are different, secrets- both good secrets and worry secrets, compliments and touching- touching we like and don't like.

Thursday and Friday - Miss Cragg

Almost there Year 2, almost there! On Thursday we continued with our new book, 'The Crow's Tale' using repetition, adverbial phrases and noun phrases as well as fronted adverbials, inner thoughts and punctuation thinking about commas in a list, question marks and speech marks. Plenty to cram in! In Maths we have been nearing the end of our multiplication and division unit, this week looking at the ten times table and dividing by 10.

In Science we sorted materials to consider which materials are best for a certain job, making a house or the right materials for making furniture. On Friday we had a lovely treat, we had some birds of prey come to visit us! We learned all about lots of different birds especially how incredible their powers of sight and hearing are, and we even had the opportunity to watch Tutu the barn owl fly over our heads in assembly!

How lucky are we! Have a wonderful half term break and we'll see you on Tuesday 2nd June.

WC: 12/05/25 Monday - Wednesday - Mrs Barratt

A week full of lots of learning this week.

In Maths, we have been multiplying and dividing. We have written multiplication sentences, used arrays and made equal groups by grouping.

In English, we have been continuing our English work on The Great Fire of London. We have been writing sentences with using smells, metaphors and fronted adverbials. We have really enjoyed this unit of work; we have written a plan ready for our big write later in the week.

In History, we have learnt about how life for people with disabilities has changed in society. We looked at what life was like before and how it has changed to support people now. We talked about sign language and how it developed and even looked at the Paralympics- the athletes are incredible!

On Wednesday, we had PE with Mr Godson and Art with Mrs Freeman.

Thursday - Mrs Glaves and Friday - Miss Cragg

Bit of a strange one this week when we had the pleasure of Mrs Glave's company on Thursday! She helped us start our Big Write about the Great Fire of London as well as making equal groups by grouping in Maths. She did a Science lesson with us on the best materials to use to make houses for the three little pigs and we loved having her with us, thank you Mrs Glaves!

On Friday we finished off our Big Write - they are AMAZING! We are so proud of how hard everyone tried in their writing of a diary entry from a London rat caught up in the events of the Great Fire in 1666. In Maths we continued to make equal groups but this time we shared. In RE we continued to learn about Judaism in a lesson on the importance of Shabbat, the special Jewish holy day of rest where they cannot turn on lights, watch tv, cook or even do homework on a Saturday! Spellings and multiplications finished off our week of many teachers! Have a great weekend, one more week of school to go before a very well deserved week off and before the final push in our last few weeks of Year 2, including SATs!

WC: 05/05/25 Monday - Wednesday - Mrs Barratt

A 4-day week again this week, but it has been a busy one!

In English, we have been continuing to learn about the Great Fire of London. We wrote sentences using adjectives and imagining with worries and hopes. We then got to experience the sights and sounds of the Great Fire of London in an imaginary virtual reality drama- it was AMAZING! We had so much fun in the MATRIX.

In Maths, we started a new unit - multiply and divide. We started the week with finding equal groups. We looked at different groups and had to decide if they were equal or not.

In History, we continued looking at how life has changed for people of colour in society, specifically slavery and Britain's role in it. We looked at two significant figures from Britain- Edward Colston and William Wilberforce.

On Wednesday, we had Art with Mrs Freeman and PE with Mr Godson.

Thursday & Friday - Miss Cragg

What a week! In Maths we've finally finished shape - hooray! We are beginning to use the language of sharing and starting to notice groups that we can share into. We've been making equal groups, adding equal groups together and being introduced to the multiplication symbol - x.

In English we've continued our Great Fire of London book, looking at exclamation marks, personification and verbs on Thursday and then onomatopoeia, verbs, personification (again!) amd feeling words on Friday. We are getting ready for our Big Write next week! The fire is really hotting up now...pun intended!

In Science we've continued with our materials topic, testing different materials for their absorbancy or waterproofing. In RE we started our first lesson on Judiasm, looking at how Jews pray and talking about items which are important in prayer such as the tallit prayer shawl and the Torah which is read in Hebrew with a special pointer called a yad and kept in a special cupboard in the synagogue called an Ark. Time for our multiplications and spellings and thats it for the week! Have a great weekend.

WC: 28/04/25 Monday - Wednesday - Mrs Barratt

What a great start of the week we had, we all went to Rand Farm Park for our OUTSTANDING OFSTED report earlier in the year. We were really lucky to bottle feed the lambs, pet the animals - both small and large, learnt about the hatchery, did some archery and had a tractor ride. What a fabulous day we had.

In English, we have been reading a model text of a diary entry and plotting the correct shapes alongside it and then we had an experience day, we understood what London was like in 1666.

In Maths, we have been looking at edges on 3D shapes. We looked at a range of 3D shapes and had to count the edges carefully.

We thoroughly enjoyed this topic.

On Wednesday, we had Art with Mrs Freeman and PE with Mr Godson.

Thursday & Friday - Miss Cragg

We've continued to learn about 3D shapes at the end of the week, counting vertices and making patterns with 2D and 3D shapes. We're starting a new module next week which will be exciting! In English we have carried on with our new book about The Great Fire of London. We had the opportunity to listen to the whole book and then put the events of the fire into the correct order and draw a comic strip. We then worked on suffixes and superlatives in our sentence stacking lesson!

In Science we made sand castles thinking about the perfect ratio of sand to water. In RE we ended our Islam unit by learning about Muslim funerals. A spelling and multiplication test ended our week. Have a great weekend everyone!

WC: 21/04/25 Monday - Wednesday - Mrs Barratt

A great start to the new term. We got straight back into our English writing by writing our own snippet of the story based on 'How to train your dragon'. We have done such a good job!

In Maths, we have continued with shape. We have looked at lines of symmetry. We had to draw the other side of the shape accurately to make sure it was exactly the same on both sides.

In History, we started our new unit 'How has women in society changed over time?' We looked at how women were treated in the early 20th century and compared it to the present day. We discussed how different it was for women; being at home, cleaning, cooking, looking after the children etc and the lack of equal rights women had and how powerful groups 'Suffragettes' and 'Suffragists' helped changed how women are looked at today.

On Wednesday, we had Art with Mrs Freeman and PE with Mr Godson.

Thursday and Friday - Miss Cragg
