Autumn Term 2025

Week commencing: 1st September

Welcome to year 3! 

This week we have been busy settling into year 3. We have been learning all about the expectations of year 3 looking at the school and class rules, and what it’s like to be a year 3 student. We have also been learning how to tie our ties and shoelaces.

In PSHE  this week we have been looking at our dream and nightmare schools, and how this fits in with our school rules and values.

 

Week commencing: 8th September

This week we have begun our formal lessons of maths and English.

In English we have been looking at our new class book ‘The secret of Black Rock’, looking at nouns, adjectives and adverbs.

In maths we have started the term with place value, looking at representing and partitioning numbers to 100.

In our afternoon lessons we have been looking at the countries of the UK in Geography, what happened after the last ice age in History and food chains in Science.

 

Week commencing 15th September

Year 3 have been working really hard looking at similes, personification and onomatopoeias in English this week.

In Maths we have been consolidating our understanding of hundreds, tens and ones by flexibly partitioning numbers using place value counters and finding more and less of a number.

In the afternoons this week we have explored what it would be like to be stone age hunter gatherers, become nutritionists looking at healthy diets and as theologists have learnt about the holy trinity.

 

Week commencing 22nd September

 

In English this week we have been looking at alliteration to add detail and description to our writing as well as learning how to use inverted commas to indicate speech.

In Maths we have been looking at numberlines to 10, 100 and 1,000 and have learnt how to estimate numbers using these as a guide.

In the afternoons we have learnt about why our bodies need energy in Science and have learnt the difference between mechanical and free hand lines in Art.

 

Week commencing 10th November

 

Welcome back Year 3!

We have dived straight back into it in Year 3, recapping our science knowledge on the human body for English, where we have been writing about the body structure of the pangolin.

In maths we have been looking at how we can add and subtract numbers using column method, focussing on our careful counting.

In the afternoon lessons, we have been looking at settlements in geography, how computers work in computing and have created pictures using a variety of textures in Art.

 

Week commencing 17th November

This week we have been using subheadings to describe the different features of the pangolin as well as looking at how we can add additional detail to our sentences using subordinate clauses.

In Maths we have continued to develop our understanding of column addition and subtraction, crossing the tens and hundreds.

In the afternoon lessons, we have looked at underwater habitats in science, have continued to look at different settlements in Geography and have taken part in a poetry workshop where we have created our own collaborative poem.

 

Week commencing 24th November

This week we have been working really hard during assessment week.

In the afternoons we have looked at holy communion in RE and have become marine biologists in science learning all about the Mariana Trench and Kelp Forests.

 

Week commencing 1st December

This week we have been looking at planning our own non chronological report on a mythical creature. We have spent time creating our own creature and planning our report based on the non-chronological report of the pangolin.

 

In Maths this week we have started to look at multiples and groups of numbers. We have deepened our understanding on what a multiple is and how we use groups to multiply and share numbers.

 

In the afternoons this week, we have been working on our DT project- Gingerbread. We looked at our design criteria, creating a sweet treat for children aged between 7 and 1. We then worked in groups to weigh and measure our ingredients and create the perfect gingerbread mixture before decorating them according to our plan.

 

Week commencing 8th December

This week we have been publishing our independent writes on our very own mythical creature; we have come up with some amazing ideas and can’t wait to share them.

In Maths we have begun to look at the 3 times table and how we can group things into 3’s to help us divide.

In the afternoons we have been on a walk to the church and to look at the religious symbols within it and how these can be used during worship. Father Phillip even played the organ for us. We have also been discovering the different creatures in the Marianna trench, looking at what make them so unique.

 

Week commencing 15th December

This week we have been recapping our learning from this term, looking at places in Lincolnshire, underwater habitats, Ancient Civilisations and the symbols in Christianity.

We have also been on a very exciting trip to the deep where we looked at underwater habitats including the coral reef.

We had lots of fun at the pantomime and carols around the tree.
